“Chicago”...Review by Deb Harley

A few years ago, I saw the Broadway version of Chicago, when it came to the Stranahan Theater in Toledo. Recently, I remember asking my husband if he could visualize Waterville Playshop
attempting to produce that show, and we both thought, “No”. Surprisingly though, after seeing
Playshop’s version of the show a few weeks ago at Anthony Wayne High School, I was proven wrong.

When you first walked into the auditorium, your sight went right to the stage. The set was GREAT! As people walked in you just heard them say “WOW”.

One of the scenes that I really enjoyed was when Velma Kelley (Lindsay Denham) was showing the dance routine she did with her sister, to Roxie Hart (Kaitlin Majoy). The dance routine was flawless.

Overall, the show went very smoothly, thanks to the production crew, led by stage manager, Mary Dieterly. The show kept the attention of the audience, even with the slight problems with the
microphones.

The great performance of the cast showed me of the amount of outstanding talent in this area. From Lindsay Denham and Kaitlin Majoy’s wonderful performance and dance, Vicki Clyce as the money-hungry, hands-out Matron, Kim Rife as the zany Mary Sunshine, Joe Barton as the blindly in love
cellophane man, to all of the dancers. This is a show with not just one star, but twenty plus.

Congratulations to Sam Macera for a wonderful show and Deb Tell for the great choreography. In my opinion, this show was one of Waterville Playshop greatest shows. You should all be proud of you your accomplishment. Good luck at OCTA.
